When Halloween comes along I always miss the days when I mulled over costume decisions with my siblings, seeing myself transform as I turned into a new character, and the smell of burning pumpkins glowing by tea lights in the dark as I trick-or-treated. We’d happily stuff ourselves of honey ham sandwiches before we trekked through the neighborhood, a slight chill in the air as we did the leg work to get our free candy for the evening (it was a bonus if you didn’t have to wear your coat over your costume). Once I got home, it would be dumped in front of me on the floor, t.v. going of some Halloween movie. I’d diligently look through all the candy, sorting them into categories to see what all I had, trading some, and checking to make sure no holes were poked into any of the wrappers (safety first, kids!). I remember I also went through a phase of being shy about saying “trick-or-treat!” when a neighbor opened the door, allowing my other siblings to say it for me. I don’t think it lasted long. We’d enjoy the Halloween themed Disney channel movies leading up the big day, along with Nightmare Before Christmas, and Hocus Pocus (both were on repeat throughout the entire year). I always have fond memories of this time of year and I think my Halloween Pins try to reflect that to bring all the feels back to the present.
